Windows Blue Screen Error Causes & Solutions

First let us know what is a Windows Blue Screen. It is the Blue colour Screen that Windows Powered PCs show when they fail to run anymore. This failure occur due to several reasons to which windows is unable to keep itself in running position. It is also called as BSOD or Blue Screen Of Death which means that windows stopped functioning due to serious failure and to prevent any more damages windows shut down all the processes immediately. Usually with such screen an Error Code is Displayed. Below is an example of such Blue Screen Error.

If your windows too crashed and you were shown a similar screen with message as “Windows is crashed and we are recovering the windows. Error Code: xxx“, then don’t worry our this article is here to assist you in solving this problem.
Before going to solutions, lets first analyse the reason that caused the problem. Generally an Error Code is Displayed in the BSOD which signifies the reason for such faults. You can easily Google it to find the problem associated with that particular error code. But if either you didn’t find the result for theerror code or there was no error code displayed then read the below listed major causes of BSOD.

Driver Issue

Blue screen error can be caused by driver issues too. Generally when you update the driver that windows too had it installed by default, there may be windows blue screen error or BSOD if the one that you installed didn’t match the exact descriptor for the hardware it is in windows default installeddriver for the same hardware.
This is because usually windows commands the hardware with the drivers descriptions but when it starts receiving the invalid responses, it stops the service all at a certain to stop the hardware from getting damaged.

Ram Issue

Nearly all the blue death screen are result of the memory vault. Even in the driver issue, it is caused because with invalid responses memory gets immediately filled. Sometime it may be that you use the PC in haphazard way and the memory gets full.
Or
Sometime it may also be the issue that the memory for which references were stored in RAM are damaged and while refreshing the same memory windows get no response. In such cases too your PC will be hanged and will die to BSOD.

Others

There are other several reasons too that may cause the problem such as hardware failure or overheating or sudden interruption in processing of processor or many times even viruses lead to such screens as they make the windows necessary files to be corrupted. BSOD will occur whenever the windows is unable to run the system processes critical to basic windows functioning or whenever its memory is overloaded due to whatsoever reasons.

Solutions

Now you know the reasons and it may be easier to guess out the proper solutions too. Below are the common solutions to resolve such issues. Please note getting rid of the blue screen takes a longer time so do this when you are free and also make sure in case of importance of data make priority to data backup then resolving the BSOD.

To solve the issue follow the following steps:

Step 1: Default BIOS Setting
Now you know the reasons and it may be easier to guess out the proper solutions too. Below are the common solutions to resolve such issues. Please note getting rid of the blue screen takes a longer time so do this when you are free and also make sure in case of importance of data make priority to data backup then resolving the BSOD.
  1. Make the BIOS setting loaded with its default setting and to do that simply press Esc button before the computer starts. And after that press F9 to load the default boot setup and then to apply the changes press F10 followed by ok button when save changes message appears.
  2. It may be different buttons for your case so do this with due care by reading the option line before clicking it.
  3. The better part with this is that sometime over clocking or any other changes in the BIOS interrupts the windows process to cause the death screens. So in case this was the problem you may get the immediate relief just after changing this setting.

Step 2: Run PC in Safe Run Mode

  1. After changing the default BIOS setting now run the PC in Safe Run Mode by pressing the F8 button at windows start-up.
  2. After the PC is started in safe Run Mode make sure that if the problem is occurring or not.
  3. If the problem is still recurring then you need to reinstall the Windows and also check for any specific hardware failure problem.
  4. In case there isn’t the error any more, you can understand the problem was by the driver issue. It won’t happen in safe mode simply because all the drivers are reloaded before the PC is started inSafe Run Mode.
So if you have found that it was a driver problem then follow our step 3.

Step 3: Advance Restore

  1. So if you came from 2nd step, then you can do is to restore the windows files. Start Windows Restore System and then select at the day when the problem was caused and then restore the PC to that particular day.
  2. If you find that the event on that day was an installation of a driver then after recovering the file make sure to uninstall the driver to that file and then again install it through
    windows update.

Step 4: Check the Disk Space

  1. Make sure to check the disk spaces in the C drive or the drive where you have the windowsinstallation because several times it happens that due to the lack of disk spaces the windows is unable to run and you are presented with the most hated Blue Screen of Death.
  2. In case the partition drive to which the windows is installed isn’t having at least 10 percentage of free spaces to its size, then make sure to move several files to other drives so as to make the drive free.

Step 5: Test Memory

If the problem isn’t sorted out yet then make sure to make a memory test. Boot the windows in Advance Boot Mode and then select the Repair My PC or Installation Option or Advance Option as the case may be with different versions of windows installations. Make sure to run the windows memory test which will give you the result whether there is any memory vault or not.
If any found it will automatically ask you to place the installation CD of windows and will attempt to troubleshoot the issue automatically. But in case there isn’t any memory fault but still you are facing the problem, then visit the next step.

Step 6: Note down the Error Code

In case in any of the steps till here you didn’t get the solution, then note down the error code that are displayed usually on the BSOD and search the internet with the code. Believe us that there are several article for specific errors so that you will find the special solution for your problem.

Step 7: Reinstall the Windows

If the problem isn’t solved up to this point then there’s only a solution for normal people and that is just run the windows installation disk to reinstall the windows. And yes you should try to back up the data so that you can save it before running the installation media.

What if even after the re-installation,the problem isn’t fixed

Well then it’s a hardware issue and please refer to specialist to get the hardware replaced. But usually the problem is related to software issues. Also don’t forget to scan the computer with Boot Mode  scanners such as Avast, Kaspersky or any antivirus to check out whether the problem isn’t caused by the viruses.

Thank You :)
